Is the wait for Google Maps on iOS almost over?
Citing anonymous sources, AllThingsD reports that Google is only hours away from releasing its long-overdue native Maps app for iOS.
Yes, the wait is over — Google has released Google Maps for iPhone.
Many iOS users have eagerly awaited the arrival of Google Maps ever since Apple launched its own, pretty awful Maps app with the release of iOS 6 in September. And while the company has fixed some of the software’s issues, many iOS users have been burned too many times to give it another go.
Google, while vague on the details, has confirmed that Google Maps for iOS is in progress, though the big question has been whether Apple will approve it. But if the report from AllThingsD is correct, it looks like Apple already has.
We’ve reached out to Google for a response to the report, though chances are the app will launch before the company responds.
