Scratch Music Group keeps the party going with funding from NEA

Scratch Music Group has closed its second round of funding to fill the world with electronic music.

Scratch is a New York-based music technology company that connects DJs with events. The network contains over 1,000 DJs from around the world who use the platform to find event opportunities. The company has provided DJs for more than 30,000 events, weddings, and music festivals to date and entertained over 12 million people. It has also facilitated 60 national tours for big brands like MTV, Vans, Bloomingdales, ESPN, Royal Caribbean, Nike, Pepsi, H&M, and W Hotels.

The group consists of three parts — Scratch Events, Scratch Weddings, and the Scratch DJ Academy. On Scratch Events, DJs post profiles with information about their background, work experience, and style. People looking to book a DJ can search through the listings and book acts through the site.

Scratch was founded in 2002 to be the definitive online marketplace for DJs, events, and brands. It established the Scratch Weddings in 2010 and raised $3.3 million in its first round of funding in 2011 to support growth of this division. The funding led to a 100 percent growth in revenue, bookings, and executions, the company said in a statement issued this morning.

The third part of the business– Scratch DJ Academy — provides a learning center for people to develop their DJ skills. People with little to no experience can take individual classes, while those looking to build a career can go through Scratch’s DJ Certification Program.

New Enterprise Associates led this round of financing, with participation from previous investor Contour Venture Partners. Nobody is saying exactly how much NEA and Contour invested in this round, however. The new money, whatever the amount is, will support the company’s continued growth into new sectors, geographical markets, and product development.
