Current Caller ID, an app we’ve called the future of smartphone calling for its ability to bring social media updates and news to your call screens, has seen huge growth in its first year.
WhitePages, the app’s creator, announced today that more than 5 billion calls and texts have been made through the app. Perhaps as a means of celebrating, the company is also releasing an updated version of the app today with new features including customized alerts, outgoing caller ID, and the ability to like Facebook posts.
Current Caller ID completely replaces your Android phone’s call screen to work its magic, which is centered on giving you context around your texts and calls. In addition to social media updates and news, the app can show you the local weather for where a call originated, alongside typical caller ID features. Think of it like caller ID on steroids.
WhitePages says the app has been downloaded more than 4 million times.
When it comes to the new features, the app’s fans will likely appreciate the ability to create more customized call alerts: Now you can choose the layout of the caller ID information for specific callers. So if you never want to see your friends’ inane Facebook posts but still want to use Current Caller ID for other people, you can just cut your friends’ updates out.
