Following Netflix’s own Emmy nominations, Amazon has announced that its Instant Video service has won a Technology & Engineering Emmy award for its personalized video recommendations.
Amazon’s Instant Video service competes with Netflix, Hulu, and other online video players. But the Emmys apparently believe that Amazon’s video recommendation tools and algorithms are so good they deserve recognition. Amazon offers fun classifications for streaming movies and TV shows based on mood and topic, including “Dystopian,” “Love,” “Zombies,” and “Revenge.”
“Our goal is to give customers the best possible movie and TV watching experience. That means both enabling customers to find exactly what they’re looking for and helping them discover new TV shows and movies in a personalized way,” Amazon VP of music and video Bill Carr said in a statement. “We’ve made it effortless to discover new content they’ll love, and we will continue to innovate on behalf of our customers to make it even easier and more enjoyable to explore all of the great movies and TV shows on Amazon.”
This is Amazon’s first-ever Emmy award. Netflix was nominated for 14 Emmys a few weeks back for its original programming. The Netflix original series House of Cards got nine nominations, the reboot of Arrested Development got three, and the original series Hemlock Grove earned two nods.
