Workday, a company with cloud-based human resources and finance software, is releasing a wide-spanning new kind of software today to help companies find and hire new employees.
The company put two years into developing the new Workday Recruiting tool, which integrates tightly with other software it sells. So if analysis in Workday shows that a company needs more salespeople, it’s now possible to start searching for potential hires in Workday, too.
Workday Recruiting can help recruiters target internal candidates already working at a company as well as talent outside the company. Meanwhile, recruiters can keep track of and run analysis on everyone in the recruiting pipeline, and HR can move the process forward inside the software. And, of course, candidates can apply for jobs through the new software.
“We designed all of that mobile-first,” Leighanne Levensaler, Workday’s vice president of human capital management products, told VentureBeat. That’s because Workday wants lots of people in a hiring department to use its software. “They’re not tethered to their desks,” she said.
The new Workday product could challenge software like Oracle’s Taleo, PeopleFluent, and SAP’s SuccessFactors.
Workday and other cloud software companies have been hit hard on the public markets in the past couple of months.
Based in Pleasanton, Calif., Workday had more than 600 customers as of Jan. 31, according to its latest annual report. While the company’s revenues have increased every quarter in the past two years, its net loss has grown consistently, too.
A new product like this gives the company another source of revenue. And the fact that it integrates with other components of Workday makes the company’s portfolio more compelling in its entirety.
Brown University, Equifax, Four Seasons Hotels Limited, McKee Foods, Noble Drilling Services, and Zoetis have been using the software in an early-adopter program, a Workday spokeswoman wrote in an email.
And Workday itself is “about to go live with it this month,” Levensaler said.
Workday will add to the product in the future, she said, with updates like a candidate portal, where people can check the status of multiple jobs they have applied for at a given company.
