Amazon Prime members with an Android-based smartphone now have one more way to keep themselves entertained.
Today Amazon announced that it's launching its Prime Instant Video service on Android phones, giving those who signed up for an annual Prime membership access to tons of movies and TV shows available for streaming in Amazon's library of content. Prime Video, seen as a rival to Netflix, was already made available on iOS devices earlier this year.
The move is interesting because until now, the only way you could watch Prime Video on an Android device was through Amazon's Fire Phone, which comes with a complementary one-year subscription to Prime. This could be yet another signal that the Fire Phone is indeed a flop.
At the same time, it could be part of a larger strategy by Amazon to get more people watching videos. (After all, the company did just purchase short-form video service Twitch for a boatload of cash.)
To get access to all the Prime Video content, you'll need to be an Amazon Prime member in the U.S., U.K., or Germany. However, those who aren't already Prime members can sign up for a 30-day trial.
