After stoking the appetites of cord cutters in recent weeks, Sling TV officially launched today in the latest bid to give users a new streaming TV alternative.
Offered by Dish Network, the Sling TV service made a brief debut earlier this year at CES. At the time, Dish executives told reporters the service would possibly launch this coming summer.
A couple of weeks ago, Sling TV became available on an invite-only basis. Apparently, things went well enough that Dish decided to go ahead and make it publicly available.
The streaming service costs about $20 per month and offers 13 channels, including ABC Family, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, CNN, Disney Channel, ESPN, ESPN 2, Food Network, HGTV, Maker Studio, TBS, TNT, and Travel Channel.
From there, DISH subscribers can add different packages of channels for $5 each.
