Tesla is ramping up production for its newest model, the dual-motor Model S P85D sedan.

A report in the Wall Street Journal noted that the dual-motor, super-fast Tesla model is now available for delivery in just 20 days, in late March. By contrast, if you want an older Model S, you'll have to wait until May.

The P85D goes for $105,000 and up. The previous model costs $71,000 and up.

This is a critical year for Tesla to ramp up production. The company predicts it will sell 55,000 cars worldwide this year, and hopes to sell 500,000 a year by 2020.

It sold just under 32,000 cars in 2014.

2020, perhaps coincidentally, is when Apple will begin selling its "iCar," according to rumors.

Apple chief executive Tim Cook, speaking to Apple shareholders earlier today, deflected the possibility of Apple acquiring Tesla.

Instead, Cook suggested, Apple would really like Tesla to start using CarPlay, Apple's in-dash technology, in its cars. CarPlay is already in 40 different car models, Cook said yesterday, so maybe that's not too much to ask.
