Pingpad has added task management to its social productivity app, giving you another way to stay accountable and increase your productivity. Starting today, you can quickly create to-do lists within the app, not only for yourself, but across any project you’re working on.

Started by the founders of the enterprise social network Socialtext, Pingpad launched in September as a way for users to chat and collaborate across a single app. But with this latest release, the goal is to better organize roles and responsibilities for projects, similar to what you’d receive in Trello and other task management offerings.

Tasks can be created within any individual project with the tap of a button. Once created, they can be assigned to individuals in your group. Each task can be lumped into one of four categories: No Status, To Do, Doing, and Done. The process of managing tasks is simple, but if you’re looking for features like deadlines, versioning, and dependencies, Pingpad can’t help you.

The app isn’t geared toward project managers in the enterprise, but rather to those who just need a little bit more organization in their lives. Whether you’re a student who needs to coordinate study groups or you need to plan a trip or big event, Pingpad thinks it can be the app to handle all of your organizational needs.

Company CEO Ross Mayfield didn’t reject comparisons to Trello, but explained that both services utilize the structure that’s behind the Kanban logistical control system.

This is Pingpad’s latest update, but the company’s not stopping there. Mayfield said Pingpad has plans to build out the app for Mac OS X, but that it’s “a matter of time and resources.”
