deadmau5, a favorite among hoodie-wearing tech scenesters, is going to be livestreaming a concert tonight starting at 10 p.m. Pacific Time.
You can tune in to live.deadmau5.com. Email subscribers will be able to watch a free, 30-minute live stream of the deadmau5 concert in Toronto tonight.
A deadmau5 rep confirms that this is, in fact, the performer’s first live-streamed show.
If you’re wondering why deadmau5 gets such adulation from the tech nerd crowd, perhaps it’s because he’s one of us. The origin of the deadmau5 stage name itself involves IRC and DIY hardware. According to Wikipedia:
The name “deadmau5” originated when [Joel Thomas] Zimmerman found a dead mouse in his computer while he was replacing his video card. He discussed this with chat room users and became known as “that dead mouse guy.” His nickname “Dead Mouse” was too long for the IRC character limit, and was then shortened to deadmau5.
The livestream will show a half hour of the final performance in deadmau5’s North American leg of the Meowintongs Hax tour. The show will take place in Toronto, Zimmerman’s hometown.
The event is timed to coincide with the release of deadmau5’s latest track, “aural psynapse,” which is available exclusively on iTunes. The “stunning, synth-driven” track will also be the first one performed on the livestream tonight.
