Google today said it has acquired Qwiklabs, a startup that developed commercially available training courses that people could use to become familiar with public cloud infrastructure services. For now, the startup will keep offering credits and selling subscriptions, but clearly Google will be using Qwiklabs to more directly support the Google Cloud.

“We want to help businesses get the most out of their cloud investment and, with Qwiklabs, we’ll give users a place to learn and expand their cloud skills to deliver more innovation, more features, and more efficiency for their customers,” Jason Martin, director of professional services at the Google Cloud, wrote in a blog post.

Currently, Qwiklabs offers lots of content that can help people learn more about using Amazon Web Services (AWS), the largest public cloud infrastructure provider. “We are pleased to have been chosen by Amazon Web Services to provide all AWS hands-on training for all of its customers, partners, and employees globally,” the startup says on its About page.

This move comes after Google acquired Synergyse earlier this year. That technology has since been incorporated into Google Apps.

Qwiklabs was founded in 2012 and based in Carlisle, Massachusetts. More than 500,000 people have gone through 5 million hours of training on the service, Qwiklabs founder and chief executive Enis Konuk, a former Sun and VMware executive, wrote in a blog post.
