Home-rental startup Airbnb announced that anyone with a U.S. credit card can now buy gift cards in the app, giving users a way to pay for trips for their friends and family members.
The new feature is live now at airbnb.com/gift.
Airbnb announced the new feature today at its 2015 OpenAir developer conference in San Francisco.
Everyone attending the conference is receiving a $100 gift card that can be used for any Airbnb location around the world, Michael Curtis, the company's vice president of engineering, told the crowd.
Once you receive a gift card on Airbnb -- you'll know because you receive an email about it -- you have to accept it through an Airbnb account by a certain date. As soon as you've done that, it won't expire. You'll need a U.S. credit card to redeem a gift card, Airbnb noted in a blog post on the new feature.
Here's what the gift card email will look like:

The person who gives the gift card will receive a receipt after making the purchase.
