Advanced Micro Devices has launched new processors -- the AMD Ryzen Pro 8040 Series mobile processors and AMD Ryzen Pro Series desktop processor -- for commercial AI PCs.

The latest offerings from AMD are engineered to provide performance and efficiency across professional mobile and desktop systems.

“AMD continues to deliver the broadest portfolio of AI technologies to address the needs of the modern business. As we continue to expand our AI PC leadership, we are bringing more power and efficiency to a wide array of desktops and mobile PCs,” said Jack Huynh, senior vice president for Computing and Graphics Group at AMD, in a statement. “Our latest Pro series processors set a new standard for premium computing experiences and help businesses deploy AI capabilities across their PCs with leadership performance and security.”

The AMD Ryzen Pro 8040 Series mobile processors are touted as the world's fastest and most advanced x86 processors for business laptops and mobile workstations.

With up to eight high-performance cores, advanced four-nanometer manufacturing technology, and Zen 4 architecture, these processors offer up to 30% greater performance for demanding mobile workstation applications compared to previous generations.

Equipped with AMD Ryzen AI and powerful AMD RDNA 3 graphics, the Ryzen PRO 8040 Series delivers up to 72% faster performance and 84% less power consumption for video conferencing compared to competing processors.

Leading the Ryzen Pro 8040 Series lineup is the AMD Ryzen 9 Pro 8945HS, featuring eight cores, 16 threads, 24MB of cache, and Radeon 780M graphics. Designed for resource-intensive applications such as technical computing and multimedia content creation, these processors offer unmatched processing power and graphical performance.

The Ryzen PRO 8040 Series mobile processors are expected to be available from OEM partners including HP and Lenovo starting in Q2, 2024.

On the desktop front, AMD introduces the Ryzen Pro 8000 Series processors, featuring the first dedicated AI engine on select desktop processors. With up to eight high-performance Zen 4 cores on a leading 4nm process, the Ryzen Pro 8000 Series delivers exceptional speed and power efficiency for daily business operations. Desktops equipped with these processors support DDR5 and PCIe 4 for fast data transfer, smoother workflows, and quicker access to critical applications and data.

The flagship model in the Ryzen PRO 8000 Series is the AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 8700G, offering eight cores, 16 threads, 24MB of cache, and integrated AMD Radeon 780M graphics. In competitive testing, the Ryzen 8700G demonstrated up to 19% better performance with lower power consumption across various workloads.

The Ryzen PRO 8000 Series desktop processors are expected to be available from OEM partners HP and Lenovo, as well as select channel partners, starting in Q2, 2024.

In addition to delivering performance, AMD Pro technologies embedded in these processors provide enterprise-grade manageability features and multi-layered security capabilities to safeguard user data and defend against sophisticated cyber threats.

The partnership between AMD and OEM partners such as HP and Lenovo is driving the adoption of AI-powered PCs in business environments. HP, for instance, announced a range of commercial desktops, workstations, and laptops powered by AMD PRO series processors, underscoring their commitment to delivering high-performance computing solutions tailored to meet the needs of modern businesses.

Lenovo, on the other hand, expanded its desktop portfolio to include the ThinkCentre series equipped with AMD Ryzen PRO 8000 Series processors, offering business users superior performance and agility.

Microsoft, a key industry partner, is collaborating closely with AMD to optimize performance and security features on Ryzen-powered Windows 11 desktops and mobile systems, further enhancing productivity for modern professionals.

“At Microsoft, we are continuing to build on the momentum of AI PC adoption delivering more use cases and features designed to help the modern professional increase productivity,” said James Howell, general manager of Windows at Microsoft, in a statement. “We are working hand in hand with AMD to further deliver optimized performance and security features on AMD Ryzen-powered Windows 11 desktops and mobile systems.”
