Unified test automation platform Mabl has announced the launch of mobile application testing. Using machine learning (ML), generative AI and computer vision, developers can thoroughly test their mobile apps without extensive coding.

"Unified means enterprises can manage their testing strategy across APIs, browsers, devices and web/mobile applications in one centralized platform," Mabl co-founder Dan Belcher tells VentureBeat. "This is important because enterprise applications often span multiple interfaces and users benefit from a single low-code solution for all test types, lowering the barrier to entry so that anyone can participate in automation."

Mabl claims its service can use machine intelligence to eliminate manual selector tasks, accelerate test creation and identify gaps in test coverage while proactively reducing performance degradation. It can also efficiently craft tests for iOS and Android apps in minutes and for various technical skills.

Belcher reasons that Mabl's new offering will solve several challenges plaguing mobile apps. This includes complex, fragmented and costly scripted test automation tools, a heavy reliance on manual testing, a complicated process for deploying these apps on marketplaces, and a lack of available quality talent. AI will expedite the process, eliminate the need for human intervention, and lower costs. Plus, having it be low-code makes quality assurance accessible to both technical users and those who aren't.

"Despite the fact that mobile applications demand testing at a greater scale across devices and operating systems, most mobile app development teams rely on manual testing for their quality strategies. Manual testing is often slow, expensive to scale, and doesn't capture the full picture of quality across APIs, performance, and accessibility," he said.

Native mobile app testing joins Mabl's existing offerings. In 2018, it released an AI-powered automation solution for browser-based apps, expanding it in 2022 to include API and accessibility testing and again in 2023 for performance testing.

Belcher states that Mabl offers "transparent pricing" tailored to each organization's needs. However, its standard mobile app package includes end-to-end user interface and API testing for mobile apps, at least 500 credits per month, unlimited local and cloud infrastructure (CI) runs, data-driven testing, comprehensive diagnostics data, integration for CI tools, Jira, Slack and Microsoft Teams, and regular customer support.

Since its founding in 2017, the company has raised $77 million in venture capital from GV, Vista Equity Partners' Endeavor Fund, Amplify Partners, Presidio Ventures and CRV. Though it declined to provide specifics, Mabl reported its monthly active users grew 66% over the last 12 months, its monthly test runs have increased 3x, and its API test requests have increased nearly 8x.

"In this climate, organizations that don’t put mobile quality front and center will fail to attract and maintain their user base," Belcher declares. "At mabl, we’ve seen firsthand that organizations that embrace AI-powered, automated testing solutions have a competitive advantage, by democratizing mobile app testing and accelerating time to market.”
