Babak Nivi, an MIT engineer, and former consultant to Atlas Ventures, has come to the West Coast and joined Bessemer Venture Partners.
And as such, we at SiliconBeat have become successful matchmakers.
Several months ago, we wrote this post about venture capitalist David Cowan and entrepreneur Babak Nivi and their VC-related blogs. After posting, Nivi emailed us to say thank you because several VCs had looked him up after the post, providing him with…
several good leads. He was seeking to join a VC firm out here, and things were looking up.
Turns out, one those VCs who emailed him was Cowan, a VC at Bessemer. And it has since led to Bessemer’s hiring of Nivi as an entrepreneur-in-residence, to work on consumer-oriented Internet companies, Nivi tells us.
As we mentioned originally, Nivi has two U.S. patents — and one of them had been licensed to a startup funded by both Bessemer and Vinod Khosla, of Kleiner Perkins. So that connection helped too.
We’re curious how Bessemer, the VC firm with a long proud tradition, funded by the proceeds of Carnegie Steel, is going to deal with the long-haired Nivi, seen here playing the drums, and who clearly has a healthy portion of attitude.
Nivi tells us this image is just a placeholder on the Bessemer team site, and that his photo is coming. And while Cowan is pretty clean-cut, he’s got his own share of attitude too, as witnessed by outrageous posts like this — contending that Google is out to hire as many good-looking women as possible.
Anyway, now that we’ve paired one couple up, perhaps we will look up the LinkedIn folks to see whether there’s a way to customize something for our blog to make it easier for others to hook up. Not tongue in cheek. We’re serious about this…and open to other ideas.
