Perhaps the most appealing aspect of the move to cloud-based applications (applications that reside on a server rather than on your computer) is the potential for collaboration. We’re already seeing it on a low level with apps such as Google Docs, but eventually online collaboration will be almost like working right next to someone. ProofHQ hopes to be the application that takes management, proofing and approval of creative projects to the next collaborative level.
Using embeddable objects, ProofHQ makes collaboration very easy on a variety of formats on the web. Whether it is used on a blog or within a social media application, lets users comment on and give feedback about projects that will be seen by everyone working on it.
The service also has a regular, Flash-based web interface (below) that allows for full-featured collaboration.
The London, England-based ProofHQ has been in private beta testing since January. The service is now opening its tools up to the public. The personal version of ProofHQ is free and allows for up to five proofs a month. Unfortunately, at only 50 megabytes of storage, not a lot of data will be able to change hands. The service offers more advanced packages with better storage options for prices ranging from $29 to $99-a-month. There is a 14-day free trial.
The service is both PC and Mac-compatible. Competitors include the much less slick looking Proof-It-Online and a whole slew of options that are photo-only. In terms of management, Basecamp would be a competitor, but ProofHQ can be integrated into Basecamp.
