RSS reader Feedly is one of the most popular replacements for the now-defunct Google Reader. In fact, thanks to Reader’s demise, Feedly was able to triple its user base from four million to 12 million.

But that doesn’t mean everything is going smoothly for the company. The service’s iOS app has been crippled during the past week due to a bug, leaving most users without access. Many have been vocal on Twitter about the app no longer working and instead displaying an “over capacity” message.

Feedly says the issue stems from Google changing some code back when Reader shut down on July 1 and says it submitted a fix for the problem to Apple seven days ago. Unfortunately, Apple has not yet approved the update. (Google Play, however, has updated the Feedly Android app, so those users are fine.)

Since the iOS app is still down for the count for many users, Feedly is recommending other apps that have Feedly integration in them. These apps are Reeder, Newsify, Mr. Reader, and Byline. (Reeder appears to be the most popular of these four.)

Feedly’s iOS downtime might also be good news for other RSS reader alternatives that don’t integrate with Feedly, including Digg Reader. We’ve also got a list of Google Reader alternatives if you’re not hot on any of the ones mentioned so far.
