Microsoft started taking requests today for the beta-test version of its Outlook email and calendar app for iOS.

The tech giant only has 1,000 openings for the beta, which requires TestFlight -- which in turn requires iOS 8.

Microsoft emailed the news today to people who were in the beta for the email and calendar app from Acompli, which the Windows company acquired last year. The Acompli-based Outlook app launched on iOS and Android in January.

Microsoft is asking people to use the beta version of the app as their primarily email on their iOS devices -- and it will remove those who don't use it on weekly basis from the beta.

The request form for the beta program is here.

Of course, the official version of Outlook for iOS remains available in iTunes.
