Facebook has become the world's largest repository of photos with more than 20 billion pictures uploaded by users. Today, photo site Shutterfly is announcing that it will let you print those photos in picture books within minutes.
The Redwood City, Calif.-based company specializes in online photo services such as sharing pictures with friends or printing snapshots from online photo collections. Now Shutterfly is getting more hip with its Simple Path photo book creation service on Facebook.
It allows Facebook users to access their photos and their friends' photos to create premium quality photo books. Sounds kind of scary, since books are immortal. But right now there is no easy way to print and share your collections of photos on Facebook. Shutterfly already has a photo book creator. Now you can use it to select photos from either your own computer, your Shutterfly collection, or your Facebook page and your friends' pages.
The application automatically populates the photos onto pages and then allows for quick customization, including the ability to change styles, add captions and rearrange pictures and pages. It's pretty easy to use your Facebook photos and the Shutterfly tool to create a "year in review" album book. You select the pictures, add captions, and place an order for the book. Facebook has lower-resolution photos, so Shutterfly automatically sizes the picture for the optimal layout on the page. You can create a book for as low as $12.99 in five minutes.
