Stewart Alsop is a venture capitalist who left New Enterprise Associates last year. We bumped into him at Starbucks in Palo Alto at the time, and asked him what he was doing. Something in the "media" space, he told us furtively. We asked him whether he'd start a blog, and he dismissed the idea, saying he didn't have anything to say, and if he did, he wouldn't want to share his secrets with the world.

So now, of course, he is blogging, at his new firm's main site. He's raising a venture capital fund with Gilman Louie, known as "Q" for his role in founding In-Q-Tel, the CIA's venture arm. They're based in SF.

They have a "file room" (they are standing in it, picture left) for tracking stuff for LPs and "federal and state governments." Hmmm, perhaps Gilman hasn't given up his government/CIA ties after all? We've asked them about it. Check back for their answer. Alsop, a former scribe, takes a shot Santa Clara company 8x8 and its phone service Packet8 for shoddy service.
