
Citrix Online, the division of Citrix Systems that provides remote, web-based services, just announced the acquisition of Paglo, a search tool for IT managers.
Menlo Park, Calif.-based Paglo describes itself as "Google for IT." Its tools allow IT staff to search a company network for all connected devices, check the status of those devices, monitor server health, install software patches, and more.
The acquisition allows Citrix to add IT management to its roster of services, which includes things like GoToMeeting (web meetings) and GoToTraining (remote training). To that end, the standalone Paglo product is being renamed GoToManage, and Citrix will be targeting small- and medium-sized businesses as well as IT service providers with the offering.
It might seem like a stretch to get from web meetings to infrastructure management. But Elizabeth Cholawsky, Citrix Online's vice president of products and client services, said this is an expansion her company has been considering for a while because it's a big market and one that fits particularly well with GoToAssist, Citrix's remote technical support product. In fact, she said a survey of GoToAssist customers found that 66 percent of them would be interested in an infrastructure monitoring product from Citrix. In the coming months, Citrix will be announcing services that integrate GoToManage with its existing products.
"It was almost to me like a preordained match, if you look at the philosophy of our two companies compared to the other targets that we were looking at," Cholawsky said. "The complete SaaS-based service, the focus on ease-of-use, the ability to be a very purpose-built solution."
Paglo was seed funded by backers including Innovacom, the venture arm of France Telecom. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
