Seven months after LinkedIn launched a brand new standalone app designed to help you keep in touch with your network, the hitherto iPhone-only affair has landed on Android too.

Emulating a trend that's seen many of the big-name online brands launch separate standalone apps for specific use cases, LinkedIn introduced LinkedIn Connected last summer to explore what it calls "anticipatory computing," reminding you to connect with key contacts "when it matters most."

The general idea behind LinkedIn Connect is that you can arm yourself with the most relevant, up-to-date information regarding those in your network.

There's been a marked increase in companies "unbundling" certain features into new standalone entities, as we've seen with the likes of Facebook Groups for example. This isn't LinkedIn's first standalone app, however, as it already has Pulse (news), SlideShare (presentations), and Recruiter (recruitment).

For the Android rollout, there is actually a unique feature to the app as well -- you'll be able to view insights about your connections directly from your home screen.
