Nusym Technology has raised $8 million in a second round of funding for its chip design verification business. The Los Gatos company makes software for verifiying the functions of circuitry in complex chip designs.
The company will use the new money to refine its products. Chip makers are trying out the products now. Voyager Capital led the round and Simmons Goodspeed Investment Management participated. An unnamed public company also made a strategic investment in Nusym. Previous investors that also participated are Woodside Fund and Draper Richards.
Chip design software is dominated by big companies such as Synopsys, Magma Design Automation, Mentor Graphics and Cadence Design Systems. Start-ups periodically make improvements in tools for different parts of the software chain, and those companies are usually purchased by the big companies.
