Wells Fargo update disrupts payday

Quick, blame Google! The attached screenshot shows Wells Fargo still “temporarily unavailable” at 2:45 pm Pacific time. A customer service rep told one of our sources that four million customers were affected.

For many online bank users, this outage on the 15th of the month is especially a problem. They had planned to pay bills today from their direct deposit paychecks. Wells Fargo has posted a phone number to call if you need to pay a bill immediately: 1-800-956-4442.

Google’s 90-minute outage earlier this week — the company’s techies accidentally routed traffic through Asia — proved that major websites are now treated as utilities by millions of customers. When you’re Wells Fargo, you can’t afford the Fail Whale.

Update: As of 3 pm Wells Fargo is back up, at least for me.

its still down 3:59 pm PST
  • It is up for me too. However, I did notice a few of my scheduled bill pay transaction disappeared. So it is something worthwhile to check.
