Google yesterday announced the Google Personalized Home for mobile devices.

Like John Battelle, we’ve been frustrated with our Treo experience, and so were immediately intrigued by this latest Google Mobile feature, which promised to simplify things.

We signed up for it (you go here and follow some very simple directions), and bingo, we’re hooked.

It’s now our phone’s home page, has our latest Gmail listed neatly there on the screen, and the other features we’ve selected (see image for example).

Now that we can see it and feel it, the coin has finally dropped for us on what Google is doing. It is making itself a homepage for cellphones, and it is building out its wireless telecom network to support this, striking deals with Blackberry (see the Mercury News story today about yesterday’s announcement between Google and Blackberry and Apple which will expand features such as Google Talk, email and so on), and generally becoming an all-round hub for our mobile experience. And so far, it is working.

Now it will have to work on its search results, which aren’t formatted that well for mobile users.
