—Emergence Capital Partners, of San Mateo, said it has started raising its second fund, targeting $175 million, the firm told VentureBeat last week. The company invests in early stage Web software companies.
—Battery Ventures, with offices in Boston and Silicon Valley, plans to raise a fund of about $750 million — larger than its current $450 million fund, so that it can invest in multiple types of companies, including early and more mature start-ups, but also some small buyouts. –Early-stage venture firm Spark Capital, which closed its first fund only two years ago, plans to raise a second fund beginning the second quarter, VentureWire also reports (sub required). The Boston-based firm aims to raise between $300 million and $350 million.
