Cavium Networks, a public semiconductor company based in Mountain View, Calif., has bought W&W Communications, a Santa Clara, Calif. firm specializing in video compression, for $19.3 million, reports peHUB. The acquisition will give Cavium rights to W&W’s line of PureVu video processors with high-definition and wireless capabilities. These processors have both consumer (laptop and game console) and surveillance applications.

Founded in 2001, W&W raised $1.2 million in one round of funding from Nueva Ventures and Hi-Tech Venture Capital in 2005.
