Kony evaluated across 15 Critical Capabilities for Enterprise Mobile Application Platforms
ORLANDO, Fla.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–January 15, 2015–
Kony, Inc., the leading enterprise mobility company, today announced that it has received the highest scores in three out of four use cases by Gartner for critical capabilities for business-to-consumer (B2C), business-to-employees (B2E), and business-to-business (B2B) mobile application implementations in the 2014 Gartner Critical Capabilities for Mobile Application Development Platforms report.
Gartner focused “on 15 critical capabilities from 11 vendors to help enterprise IT leaders evaluate these offerings for use cases in B2B, B2E and B2C implementations.” Kony scored highest product scores for the following use cases in a five-point scale: B2C Transactional (4.00), B2E Back Office (4.08), B2E Front Office (4.06); and second for B2C Informational (3.94) use cases.
According to Gartner, the Critical Capabilities for Mobile Application Development Platforms research “complements the “Magic Quadrant for Mobile Application Development Platforms,” but has a different emphasis. Critical capabilities research emphasizes product features, rather than the strategic qualities of a vendor. A Magic Quadrant is vendor-focused and forward looking (examining the vendor’s prospects over the next five years), while critical capabilities looks at how features in the currently shipping product can be applied to important common use cases.”
“For the past six years, Kony has invested heavily in mobile-focused R&D and innovation to empower the world’s most prolific brands to embrace the new mobile paradigm,” said Thomas E. Hogan, chief executive officer, Kony, Inc. “We feel it’s extremely gratifying to see the hard work of our roughly 600 developers validated by Gartner’s independent analysis. I couldn’t be more proud of our talented and dedicated team, and equally pleased with the business outcomes that we’ve delivered to our industry-leading clients.”
According to Gartner, “explosive growth in mobile adoption continues through every industry sector, consumer demographic and geographic region. Many enterprises are now seeking to build a portfolio of mobile applications, addressing both internal-facing and external-facing audiences. Enterprises are looking to build their portfolio of mobile apps on a strategic mobile platform that supports multiple native platforms and different architectural styles, manages many phases of the application development life cycle, and allows for multiple modes of deployment.”
Kony offers a rich set of mobile solutions across the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), empowering businesses to securely design, build, configure, and manage multi-edge mobile applications from a single codebase. With Kony, customers can rapidly deliver innovative mobile applications with stunning experiences to drive user adoption. Kony also offers ready-to-run business mobile apps to better engage with customers and help increase employee productivity, by enabling them to have access to company systems and information through their mobile devices. Leading enterprises worldwide rely on Kony to:
- Deliver a full enterprise lifecycle and multi-channel enablement
- Provide unparalleled service level agreements guaranteeing support for new devices and operating systems
- Enable strong integration capabilities supporting a range of complex enterprise applications
“As adoption of mobile applications by businesses move from niche to mainstream – from a few apps to hundreds of B2C and B2E apps – the most sophisticated enterprises are moving toward a strategic platform and SDLC approach to enable speed, efficiency, security, and a best-in-class user experience,” said Hogan. “Companies are realizing a new and modern approach to mobile application solutions is required, and the traditional ad hoc, project-driven method to enterprise mobility will no longer suffice and scale.”
The Kony Mobility Platform has provided an integrated set of products and services that spans the full lifecycle including the following solutions:
- Kony Visualizer – Kony Visualizer addresses the define and design phases of a mobile project with patent-pending technology that provides the first “WYSIWYM” (What You See Is What You Mobilize) collaborative design solution used by designers and business users for stunning experiences across all digital channels.

- Kony MobileFabric – Kony MobileFabric uniquely addresses integrate and deployment phases of a mobile project by delivering the first unified and open-standards based mobile back-end infrastructure that enables the development across native, web and multi-channel mobile apps.
- Kony Management – Kony Management addresses deploy and manage phases by enabling smarter EMM by building situation and context-aware functionality directly into your app and controlling with intelligent policy.
The comprehensiveness of coverage across the full SDLC is Kony’s unique differentiator; no one in the industry provides this same breadth of capability across all lifecycle phases. These components of Kony’s full SDLC portfolio can be used individually or combined to streamline workflows, accelerate development timeframes and lower total costs of ownership.
Given the explosion of mobile apps for B2E, B2B and B2C needs, the demand is rapidly outpacing supply – IT cannot keep up with the demands of line of business (LOB) for mobilizing the business. The budget control and influence of business stakeholders on technology decisions is also increasing rapidly, putting LOB increasingly in the driver’s seat when it comes to mobility. Kony is investing in a new app platform and tools around “codeless” model-driven development, which empowers the LOB with new capabilities that enable them to rapidly assemble and configure enterprise mobile apps. This includes the following solutions:
- Kony Modeler, the first “codeless” model and configuration solution that can be used by business users to rapidly create great mobile apps by assembling and configuring app models available through the Kony Marketplace;
- Kony Marketplace, an enterprise mobile app exchange of ready-to-run apps and app models; and
- Enhancements to Kony Studio, Kony Framework and Kony MobileFabric to enable a new class of model-driven, composite apps.
