The on-demand car valet service Zirx today launched its service in a sixth urban area — Brooklyn, New York.
Specifically, the service is now available in the Brooklyn neighborhoods of DUMBO, downtown Brooklyn, Vinegar Hill, and Brooklyn Heights.
Brooklyn may be fertile ground for Zirx’s valet service. “With more than 2.5 million people residents and millions more visitors each year, Brooklyn is one of our country’s busiest cities,” said Zirx CEO Sean Behr. “Add to this a nearly 45 percent car ownership rate and the hassles for drivers keep adding up.”
The San Francisco-based startup says urban commuters typically spend about 20 minutes looking for a parking spot. And the spot they eventually find is often in an expensive parking garage.
The company offers a mobile app so weary drivers can signal their location. Zirx then sends an “agent” out within minutes to park the car in a partner garage.
The company also offers Zirx Care, in which its agent offer additional services like oil changes and tire rotations while Zirx is in possession of the car.
When it’s time to leave, the car owner hits a button in the app and the Zirx agent brings the car back. Brooklynites will pay a flat $10 for pickup and delivery, plus $3 for every hour Zirx has the car. Drivers can also opt for a $499 monthly pass.
Zirx is already offered in some of the the country’s most congested cities: Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington, D.C.
