EyeEm announced today that it has opened up a new opportunity for photographers interested in monetizing their work. The company has partnered with Adobe Stock to license selected images for commercial use. Through this deal, photographers will split revenue 50/50 with EyeEm.
Competing against the likes of 500px, Instagram, and Flickr, EyeEm provides not only a photo-sharing service, but also an avenue for those who want to make some money from their work. Beyond Adobe Stock, the company has licensing deals with Getty and Alamy.
Sharing photos with friends and family is one thing, getting “discovered” is something else entirely. This is where EyeEm comes in. With a mobile app to capture photos, the creation of a marketplace, and the debut of a web tool that suggests tags to improve discoverability, the company is providing professional and would-be professional photographers with the tools they need to get their photos out there.
Curated photos will be a part of Adobe Stock’s premium collection, which features more than 100,000 images appealing to advertising agencies, brands, and digital and print publications. The service, which was launched this summer, makes it possible for EyeEm users to have their work picked up for significant commercial projects.
“Our global EyeEm community creates unique images from all cultures and corners of the world,” stated Florian Meissner, the cofounder and chief executive of EyeEm. “These two creative companies coming together gives our photographers the opportunity to drive revenue from Adobe’s customers in need of high-end authentic content.”
Appealing to traditional creative agencies and brands is an interesting play, as EyeEm looks to distinguish itself from competitors in the space by highlighting the creative nature of its users. Agencies are not necessarily looking for staged stock images anymore, as photos from “regular” people’s perspectives often come across as more believable. After all, the more authentic the ad feels, the higher the likelihood of a purchase taking place.
Agencies may be pleased to learn that EyeEm’s curated content will be directly integrated with Adobe’s Creative Cloud.
